(13/4/16): Looking Like Caesar

Today was a free day, instead of a site visit we had an evening lecture from Dr Nigel Spivey entitled: ‘Looking Like Caesar: a case study of personal likeness and group assimilation in Roman portraiture’.  Below is depicted an image of the bust of Gaius Calvisius Sabinus (Consul in 39 BC) found at Spoleto, likened to Caesar by his facial features. Next to him is an image of the Roman Theatre at Spoleto.
